Freestar Boost Pressure Actuator Fault

I'm having a boost pressure actuator fault with my 2003 Ford Freestar with a gasoline engine. It has 38593 km on it. The check engine light is on. I have reduced engine power, poor engine response, a whistling noise, loud hissing during acceleration, occasional engine stalls at idle, and higher fuel consumption. I suspect an electrical bypass valve defect. Any insights?

I have a Freestar and had similar symptoms - whistling and hissing, especially when accelerating. The engine light was on too. Did you check the pressure sensor? That was also a contributing factor when mine went.

Thanks. Could you elaborate on 'checking the pressure sensor'? What should I be looking for, and is it easy to do?

I'm no mechanic, but when the shop looked at mine, they said the sensor was giving faulty readings, causing the actuator to malfunction and throwing off the boost. Honestly, with those symptoms, especially the hissing and stalling, I'd just take it to a reputable workshop. Might save you some headaches.

Thanks. I took it to the workshop. The electrical bypass valve was defective, as suspected. Replacing it fixed everything and cost 250€.
