Freestar Boost Pressure Actuator Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Ford Freestar experienced a boost pressure actuator fault, leading to reduced engine power, poor response, whistling and hissing noises, engine stalls, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause was a defective electrical bypass valve. After taking the vehicle to a workshop, replacing the faulty valve resolved the issues.

Thanks. Could you elaborate on 'checking the pressure sensor'? What should I be looking for, and is it easy to do?

I'm no mechanic, but when the shop looked at mine, they said the sensor was giving faulty readings, causing the actuator to malfunction and throwing off the boost. Honestly, with those symptoms, especially the hissing and stalling, I'd just take it to a reputable workshop. Might save you some headaches.

Thanks. I took it to the workshop. The electrical bypass valve was defective, as suspected. Replacing it fixed everything and cost 250€.

I have a Freestar and had similar symptoms - whistling and hissing, especially when accelerating. The engine light was on too. Did you check the pressure sensor? That was also a contributing factor when mine went.
