Freestar ECU Error Sluggish Performance

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the battery and grounds, they seem okay. You mentioned a faulty relay... was the behavior similar, with the reduced power and ECU error codes? Do you remember which relay it was? I'm wondering if that could be the culprit before I start chasing more expensive ECU repairs.

Yep, pretty much the same symptoms. Reduced power, felt like it was struggling to get out of its own way, and the error codes pointed to the ECU being unhappy. I'm not 100% sure which relay it was now (this was some time ago), but honestly, unless you're comfortable probing circuits and chasing down wiring diagrams, it might be worth getting a workshop to take a look. They can diagnose the faulty relay (if there is one) or confirm the ECU is the real issue.

Thanks a lot for your insight! It seems like a trip to the mechanic is unavoidable. Just to let you know, it turned out to be the main relay, just as suspected! The garage replaced the relay, reset the error memory, and now it runs as usual. The whole repair cost me 120€ I appreciate the help!

Whoa, ECU issues on a Freestar? Sounds familiar! I had something similar happen on my Freestar a while back: reduced power and a Christmas tree of warning lights. Did you check the basics like battery voltage and grounds before diving into the ECU itself? I had a faulty relay that was causing all sorts of weird electrical gremlins. Could be worth a shot before you start thinking about replacing the whole computer.
