Freestyle AC failure

My 2004 Ford Freestyle (gasoline engine) AC just quit. The warning light is on, and I'm getting an error. No cool air, and the AC won't switch on. Any ideas? Refrigerant leak or something bigger? I'm not super familiar with auto AC repair.

Sounds familiar. I had similar AC issues with my Freestyle. Check if the compressor is kicking on. Any difference in the engine sound when you turn the AC on?

No, there's no change in engine sound when I try to turn on the AC. How did you fix yours? I'm thinking it might be a defective control unit...Did you check yours? Any thoughts on the cooling system in general?

I didn't check the control unit myself. I took it to a shop, and they diagnosed a faulty AC control unit. Apparently, it's a common issue. They replaced it, and the AC worked fine after that. Best to have it checked by a professional.

Okay, I appreciate the info! I took it to my mechanic, and they confirmed the control unit was the issue, just like you said. Cost me around 980€ to fix, but at least the AC is working again! Thanks!
