Freestyle Overheating and Slow Warm-up

I'm writing about my 2004 Ford Freestyle with a gasoline engine. I'm seeing engine overheating and a long warm-up. Odometer is at 48425 km. I think it's the map thermostat, a common problem. Anyone else seen this on their Freestyle? Could a coolant leak from the water pump make it worse?

Yo, overheating ain't cool, especially with a slow warm-up. Thermostat sounds right. Have you checked the cooling fan? What about the temperature sensor? They can give bad readings. Coolant level okay?

Thanks for the quick reply. The cooling fan seems to work. I checked the temperature sensor, readings seem okay, but could be intermittent. Could a bad water pump, even without a coolant leak, add to this, even with a bad thermostat?

A water pump could add to it, even without a big leak. But really, with those symptoms and the car's age, the map thermostat is likely the problem. Get it to a shop, they will diagnose it for you.

Okay, thanks for confirming what I thought and for the advice. I'll replace the thermostat. I appreciate the help. I got a quote for 350€ for the repair, and will bring my car to the workshop. I'll post the result for others.
