Frontier AC and Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Nissan Frontier is experiencing issues with the air conditioning system, which won't activate, and an error message is appearing on the speedometer. The problem may be linked to the temperature sensor heat exchanger, and a defective air conditioning control unit is suspected as a potential cause. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the control unit, suggesting that a professional inspection and possible replacement of the unit might be necessary.

Mileage is at 52177 km. No visible coolant leaks, and I haven't touched the cooling system recently. You mentioned a similar issue - was it the same symptoms, and did it turn out to be the control unit?

Yes, the symptoms sound very familiar. Ultimately, for me, it pointed to a defective control unit for the AC, as you suspected. Given your description and the lack of obvious causes, it might be wise to get it checked at a workshop. My repair bill came to around 980€, unfortunately.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'll be taking it in to get looked at. Appreciate you confirming my suspicions. At least I have an idea of what to expect.

Interesting. I have a Frontier as well. I recall encountering something similar with my HVAC system. Is the mileage on your truck up there? Have you noticed any coolant leaks or done any recent work on the cooling system that might have disturbed the sensors?
