Frontier Camshaft Sensor Error

I'm having a weird issue with my 2017 Nissan Frontier, gasoline engine. It's got about 45k km on it. Lately, it's been starting rough, like it's hesitating. Also, I've noticed a definite drop in power, especially when accelerating. I scanned it, and it's throwing a camshaft sensor error. I checked the sensor itself, and the wiring looks okay, but I suspect the cable or plug connection might be faulty. Anyone else run into this?

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I have a Frontier too, and I had almost the exact same symptoms last year – rough idling, felt like I was driving through molasses, and that darn check engine light mocking me. Turns out it was the camshaft position sensor. It's like a tiny gremlin messing with your engine's brain!

Interesting! Was it just the sensor itself, or did you have any wiring issues like I suspect? How difficult was it to diagnose definitively? I'm trying to avoid just throwing parts at it.

Yeah, I feel you on the parts cannon approach. In my case, it ended up being the sensor itself, but honestly, it's worth having a shop take a quick look at the wiring. They can check for continuity and voltage and all that jazz. If the wiring is good, then you're probably safe replacing the sensor. Saved me a ton of headache in the long run. Don't quote me on that, I'm no mechanic, but it worked for me!

Thanks for the insight! I appreciate the help. I took it to my local mechanic, and after checking the wiring (which seemed fine, as you suggested), they replaced the camshaft sensor. The error is gone, and it is running perfectly again! Total cost was 95€. The problem was exactly the camshaft sensor. The car runs smoothly now.
