Frontier crankshaft sensor issue

Thank you for your input. Could you explain how you determined that the timing chain was the source of the problem, and what diagnostic steps you took to confirm this? Were there any other fault codes present alongside the crankshaft/camshaft reference value error?

No problem! It was throwing codes related to timing over-advanced/retarded, plus the cam and crank sensor errors. My mechanic checked the chain stretch using a diagnostic tool that measures the deviation. Honestly, given the symptoms and the codes, and without the right tools, I'd say get it to a reputable workshop. They'll be able to properly diagnose if it's the chain, a sensor, or something else entirely, and save you throwing money at the wrong part.

I appreciate your detailed response. I followed your advice and took the Frontier to a trusted workshop. After a thorough diagnostic check, it was confirmed that the crankshaft sensor was defective. Replacing the sensor has resolved the issue, and the total repair cost was 340€ Thank you again for your assistance.

Hey there! I also drive a Frontier. Your symptoms sound familiar. I had a similar issue related to engine synchronization a while back, where the engine light kept coming on and performance was sluggish. Have you checked the timing chain? A stretched or worn timing chain can mess with the crankshaft/camshaft timing and throw off the reference value. It's worth looking into before replacing sensors.
