Frontier solar sensor fault

I'm having a weird issue with my 2004 Nissan Frontier diesel. The error memory is storing a fault related to the solar sensor and the heating output is too low. Has anyone else experienced this? I've checked the basic fuses, but I'm not sure where to look next.

I had a similar problem with my Frontier. Check the cable and plug connection to the solar sensor, which is often the culprit. The sensor helps control the HVAC system, so a bad connection can definitely cause heating issues. Is the sensor itself easily accessible in your model year?

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly is the solar sensor located? And is there a way to test the connection without specialized tools? Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

On my Frontier, the solar sensor is located on top of the dashboard, near the windshield. Visually inspect the connector for corrosion or damage. Unfortunately, accurately testing the signal usually requires a multimeter. Given your symptoms and the potential cause being a faulty connection, it might be best to have a workshop take a quick look. It will save you time and money in the long run, I reckon.

Thanks a lot for your advice! I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on - a corroded connector on the solar sensor. They cleaned it up and re-secured it, and everything's working perfectly now. Cost me 95€ – much better than replacing the whole sensor!
