Fuel Tank Ventilation Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Ford Fusion with a diesel engine is experiencing a check engine light and stalling at idle, suspected to be due to a fuel tank ventilation system leak. A defective activated charcoal filter is considered a potential cause. Another individual with a similar issue suggested checking the pressure sensor or purge valve and recommended professional diagnosis. The problem was confirmed to be a defective charcoal filter, which was resolved at a workshop.

Interesting. When you had the issue, did it also cause the engine to stall? And how did you pinpoint the charcoal filter?

Yes, the stalling was a real pain, especially at stoplights. I didn't diagnose it myself. I took it to a workshop. They ran tests and found the charcoal filter was shot. Unless you have the gear, I'd suggest letting a pro handle it.

Appreciate the insight! I took your advice and went to the workshop. Turns out you were spot on – defective charcoal filter in the fuel tank ventilation system. The repair cost me 275€.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my Fusion. Have you checked the pressure sensor or purge valve? It could also be something in the EVAP system causing the fuel tank to not ventilate properly, impacting fuel efficiency.
