Fuga exhaust temperature sensor issue

I'm having a real headache with my 2002 Nissan Fuga with a gasoline engine. The check engine light keeps popping up, and the car feels like it's lost a lot of its power. Plus, I'm burning through gas way faster than usual. A friend suggested it might be the exhaust temperature sensor, possibly because of a leak somewhere in the exhaust system. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

I had a similar problem with my Fuga. The exhaust sensor going bad can definitely cause those symptoms. The sensor monitors the temperature of the exhaust gases to ensure the catalytic converter is working efficiently. When it fails, the engine might not be getting the right info, leading to reduced performance and increased fuel consumption.

Thanks for the info! Was it a straightforward fix? And how did you pinpoint the exhaust sensor as the culprit? I'm not very mechanically inclined, so any details would be a huge help!

Honestly, I'm no expert either. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was the exhaust temperature sensor. Given the symptoms and the potential for exhaust leaks messing with the sensor readings, it's probably best to get it checked professionally. They can properly diagnose it and replace the sensor if needed.

Alright, I appreciate the advice. I took it to my local mechanic, and you were spot on! It was indeed the exhaust temperature sensor, likely caused by a small leak in the exhaust system. The whole thing, sensor replacement and leak fix, cost me around 265€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
