Fusion DPF failure

My 2004 Ford Fusion diesel with 245725 km is showing reduced engine power and producing smoke when accelerating. I suspect it's a defective diesel particulate filter. Has anyone else had this?

Summary of the thread

A 2004 Ford Fusion diesel with 245,725 km is experiencing reduced engine power and smoke during acceleration, suspected to be due to a defective diesel particulate filter (DPF). The engine light is on, and fuel efficiency has decreased, indicating potential DPF issues. Diagnostic tools are recommended to confirm high backpressure in the exhaust system, and a professional workshop diagnosis is advised before replacing the DPF. The issue was confirmed by a shop, and the repair cost was 1550€.

Reduced power and smoke? Sounds like DPF issues. Has the engine light come on? What kind of fuel efficiency are you seeing now? High backpressure in the exhaust system can definitely cause those symptoms.

Yes, the engine light is on. Fuel efficiency has definitely dropped. What's the best way to confirm it's the DPF for sure before replacing it?

If the engine light is on and fuel efficiency is down alongside the smoke and power loss, a faulty DPF is highly probable. You'd need diagnostic tools to read the backpressure. It's best to take it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis before spending money on a new DPF.
