Fusion Hybrid Oil Pressure Warning

I'm writing about a potential issue with my 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid. At 152545 kilometers, the oil pressure warning lamp is on, and there are loud mechanical noises from the engine. The oil level is fine. Could this be a faulty oil pressure sensor?

The symptoms, especially the loud mechanical noises and low oil pressure warning, suggest a more serious problem than just a faulty oil pressure sensor, though that's possible. A faulty sensor usually wouldn't cause engine noise. Have you noticed any changes in engine performance or fuel economy? It might be an oil pump failure.

Thanks. I haven't observed any significant changes in fuel economy. If it's an oil pump failure, what's the next diagnostic step to confirm?

Given the symptoms, oil pump failure is likely. Check the actual oil pressure with a mechanical oil pressure gauge. This will give you a definitive reading, bypassing the sensor. If the pressure is low, it confirms an oil supply issue, likely the pump. Continuing to run the engine with low oil pressure can cause significant damage.

I appreciate the information. I took the vehicle to a workshop based on your advice. They confirmed the oil pump was defective and replaced it. The total cost was 755€. The engine is now running smoothly, and the oil pressure warning is gone. Thanks again for your help.
