G Klasse Anti Theft Alarm Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Mercedes G Klasse owner experienced an issue with the anti-theft alarm system, which was inactive despite showing a malfunction in the error memory. The problem was suspected to be related to the system being coded for optical locking. A suggestion was made to check the battery voltage, as low voltage can cause alarm issues. After replacing the battery and clearing the error memory, the problem was resolved, confirming the initial suspicion about the coding and battery voltage.

Thanks for the reply. The battery seems fine, but I'll double-check the voltage to be sure. When you say power failure, do you mean like a complete loss of power, or just fluctuations?

I meant a complete loss of power, even for a very short time. In my case, the car alarm issues started after that. If the battery is ok, you might just need to visit a workshop to get the alarm system recoded or the error memory cleared. It's worth a shot before replacing any components.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the battery again, and you were right, the voltage was low. Replaced the battery and had the error memory cleared at the workshop for 45€. Turns out the anti-theft system was indeed coded for optical locking (indicators), which contributed to the problem. Appreciate your help!

I had a similar problem with my G Klasse a while back. Check your battery, even if it seems fine. A drop in voltage can cause the alarm control to act erratically. Also, did you experience any power failure recently?
