G Klasse diesel CEL and stalling issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Mercedes G Klasse diesel is experiencing a check engine light (CEL) and stalling at idle, suspected to be caused by a fuel tank ventilation system leak. The issue is linked to the evaporative emission control system, with error code P0441 indicating incorrect purge flow. A defective activated charcoal filter is suspected to be the culprit, affecting emission control and airflow. Replacing the charcoal filter resolved a similar issue for another owner, suggesting it as a potential solution.

Good analogy Regarding error codes it's P0441 which points to evaporative emission control system incorrect purge flow I visually inspected the hoses seemed fine though hard to be certain without a smoke test Are you suggesting your charcoal filter was also to blame?

That's the code I had as well While the hoses might look okay there could be a tiny split causing a vacuum leak Yes replacing the charcoal filter resolved the issue for me completely If you're not comfortable diagnosing further I'd recommend taking it to a workshop that specializes in Mercedes They'll have the right tools to properly diagnose the EVAP system

Thanks for confirming My gut feeling was leaning towards the charcoal filter I'll swing by my local mechanic I appreciate the cautious advice and shared experience It looks like a new filter should do the trick The repair bill came to around 275€

Sounds familiar I had similar stalling issues with my G Klasse It also turned out to be related to the fuel tank ventilation and emission control system Think of it like a blocked airway in a human body the engine can't breathe properly Have you checked for any obvious cracks or damage to the hoses connected to the charcoal filter? What's the exact error code you're getting?
