G Klasse Exhaust Flap Nightmare Loud Exhaust Noise

My 2023 G Klasse with the gasoline engine is throwing codes related to the exhaust flaps. Mileage is at 205372 km. I'm getting noticeably louder exhaust noise, especially on cold starts, sounds like a tractor. Error memory has codes pointing to the exhaust flaps. Feels like there might be an exhaust blockage somewhere. Has anyone else dealt with dodgy exhaust valves or exhaust flaps causing this much racket?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 G Klasse with a gasoline engine is experiencing loud exhaust noise, especially during cold starts, and is throwing error codes related to the exhaust flaps. The problem is suspected to be caused by defective exhaust flaps, possibly stuck in a partially open position, which can lead to increased noise and potential exhaust blockage. The suggested solution is to have a workshop diagnose and replace the faulty exhaust flaps, which resolved the issue and eliminated the noise.

I have a similar G Klasse, though I'm not sure of the exact year right now. I had a similar issue with the exhaust components. Symptoms were almost identical: loud exhaust noise, especially on startup and an error code related to the exhaust flaps. Are you noticing any difference in performance, or is it just the noise? Have you checked the wiring and vacuum lines to the exhaust flaps?

Performance seems normal honestly. Just the crazy exhaust noise and the error code. Wiring and vacuum lines look okay at first glance, but I haven't dug in deep yet. Was your issue definitely the exhaust flaps then? What was the fix?

Yes, for me it was the exhaust flaps themselves. They were stuck in a partially open position. A faulty exhaust flap can cause a whole host of issues. Given your symptoms and the error codes, it's highly likely the exhaust flaps are defective. It might be worth having a workshop take a look. They can diagnose it properly and replace the faulty exhaust valves. Trying to force them open or closed could cause further damage. Exhaust blockage can happen, if it is not fixed.

Appreciate the insight! Confirmed it was a defective exhaust flap. Cost me 190€ at the shop. Exhaust noise is gone now. Runs like new. Thanks!
