Thank you for your swift response. I appreciate your shared experience. I must inquire, when you encountered this situation, did the diagnostic system register any error codes? Furthermore, could you elaborate on the condition of your spark plugs? Were they merely fouled, or did you observe any signs of physical degradation, such as cracking or excessive wear? And lastly, if I may press further, what specific brand and formulation of fuel system cleaner did you employ? I am meticulous in my approach and wish to ensure compatibility and efficacy.

No problem, glad to try and help. Honestly, I don't remember the exact error codes, I just remember the mechanic saying it was misfiring. The plugs were pretty nasty, covered in black soot. I didn't see any cracks, but they were definitely past their prime. As for the fuel cleaner, I just grabbed something off the shelf at the local auto parts store, nothing fancy. If I were you, I'd probably just take it to a trusted mechanic. Knocking can be serious and you don't want to mess around with potential engine damage.

I extend my sincere gratitude for your time and shared insights. Your experience has been invaluable in confirming the urgency of the situation. Based on your recommendation, I shall heed your advice and entrust the matter to a seasoned mechanic. I concur that the potential ramifications of prolonged knocking combustion far outweigh the cost of professional intervention. I shudder to contemplate the specter of irreversible engine damage. Thank you again.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my G Klasse too, though mine is an older model. I noticed the same loss of power and jerking. Smoke billowing out when you hit the gas? Yeah, been there. Have you checked your spark plugs recently? I initially suspected bad fuel, but it turned out my spark plugs were gunked up pretty badly. Also, what octane fuel are you currently using? Maybe try a fuel system cleaner specifically designed to tackle combustion chamber deposits.
