G Klasse Power Window Failure

My 2006 Mercedes G Klasse diesel has a frustrating problem. The power windows have stopped working! None of them respond. The mechanic said there's an error stored related to the window regulator and suspects a faulty power window switch. Has anyone else experienced this automotive repair issue? I'm not sure where to start. What's the deal with this window regulator?

I had a similar issue with my old Volvo C70. All the windows suddenly stopped responding. It turned out to be a broken wire in the door panel where the wires flex every time you open and close the door. The window regulator itself might be fine. The window regulator is the mechanism that actually moves the window up and down, powered by the window motor. Have you checked the fuses? Does the error code specifically mention the window motor or mechanism, or does it point more generally to the power window switch circuit?

Thanks for your input! I haven't checked the wiring in the door panel yet, I will definitely look into that. Fuses are fine. The error code is a generic one, doesn't specify window motor or anything specific, only "faulty window regulator". How difficult is it to get the door panel off to check the wiring?

Removing the door panel can be tricky; some are held on with hidden screws and plastic clips. Be careful not to break anything. Search online for a video specific to your G Klasse. If the error code is generic and the fuses are good, it really could be the power window switch or a wiring issue. Given the hassle, I'd probably take it to a workshop with experience in automotive repair. Diagnosing electrical gremlins can be time-consuming and frustrating. It's best to have a pro look at the window mechanism.

You were right. I decided to take it to a mechanic. Turns out, it was indeed a defective power window switch! They replaced it, and all windows are working again. Total cost was 200€ Thanks again for your advice!
