The headlights do seem a bit dimmer, and sometimes it hesitates when starting The battery is probably around four years old Could that really be the problem Is it possible that the starter motor is damaged from all the start-stop attempts

Four years is getting to the upper end of a car battery's lifespan, especially with the demands of a start-stop system A weak battery can absolutely cause the issues you're seeing While a faulty starter motor is possible, it's less likely than a battery issue Given the symptoms, error code, and the battery's age, I'd strongly suspect that's the cause You could try charging the battery, but replacing it is probably best After that, see if the issue persists If it does, then start looking at the starter motor However, I would advise that you take the vehicle to a workshop to have it checked Is the repair cost of 290€ you mentioned an estimate you already received

Your advice was spot on I replaced the car battery, and that seems to have solved the problem The start-stop system is now working perfectly again, and the warning lights are gone I took it to a workshop and the eventual repair cost matched my expectations I appreciate you taking the time to share your expertise

Engine stalling can be a symptom of a faulty start-stop system, especially in older vehicles The system relies heavily on a healthy car battery When the battery is weak, the system might not have enough power to restart the engine, leading to stalling Have you noticed other electrical issues, like dim headlights or slow cranking when starting the car normally How old is the battery
