G6 Fault Code Issue

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2009 Ford G6 with a gasoline engine. It's got almost 100k km on it. I'm getting a fault code that keeps popping up. The malfunction indicator lights up, and I get error messages on both the infotainment system and the speedometer. Could this be serious? Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Ford G6 with nearly 100,000 km is experiencing a recurring fault code, causing the malfunction indicator to light up and error messages to appear on the infotainment system and speedometer. The issue seems to be related to incorrect vehicle configuration, likely requiring a reflash of the car's computer. It is advised to have a professional workshop handle the reflash, as attempting it without proper expertise could risk further complications.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my G6. Is the error message consistently the same, or does it vary? Could be a module freaking out. Have you tried using an OBD-II scan tool to read the specific code? Might give you a better clue what's going on. When I saw this, it turned out to be something to do with the car's computer, which needed a specific type of reflash. You’re not running any aftermarket tunes or anything, are you?

Thanks for the quick reply! The error message is consistent, yeah. I did use a scan tool, and it points towards a coding issue, something about incorrect vehicle configuration. Reflash? Is that something I can do myself, or am I looking at a workshop visit? Could it be as simple as resetting the codes?

Definitely sounds like the same problem I had. I wouldn’t recommend attempting a reflash yourself unless you're very comfortable with that kind of thing. You could brick the whole system. I bit the bullet and took mine to a workshop; they have the proper tools and software to recode everything. I was initially hoping to just reset the codes, but in my case, that didn’t solve the underlying problem. It kept coming back.

Appreciate the insight! Sounds like a workshop visit is unavoidable then. I'll book it in and mention the coding issue. They quoted me around 360€ to fix the problem, so I hope this solves it. Thanks again for your help!
