Galaxy Diesel Jerking Acceleration
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Ford Galaxy with a diesel engine is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, engine stalling at idle, reduced power, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell. These issues may be related to a faulty intake manifold, possibly due to scorching or a leak. It is suggested to inspect the manifold pressure sensor and the intake manifold itself, as these can significantly impact engine performance. A workshop inspection confirmed a defective intake manifold, leading to necessary repairs.

Thank you for your response. I have not checked the manifold pressure sensor specifically. Could a leak in the intake manifold itself cause similar issues, perhaps due to scorching? Is that what you experienced?

Yes, a leak in the intake manifold can definitely cause those symptoms. It's like trying to run an engine with a punctured lung. Given the age and mileage, scorching is a likely culprit. I'd advise getting it checked at a workshop; a faulty manifold can seriously impact engine performance and potentially cause further damage. That's what I ended up doing.

I appreciate the advice. I will take it to a workshop for a thorough inspection. It sounds like the intake manifold is indeed the most probable cause. The workshop confirmed a defective intake manifold due to scorching. The repair cost was 1180€. Thank you again!

Those symptoms sound awfully familiar. I had a similar experience with my Galaxy – felt like driving through molasses at times. Have you checked the manifold pressure sensor? A faulty reading there can throw everything off, much like a bad barometer messing up a weather forecast.
