Galaxy engine power loss
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Ford Galaxy with a diesel engine is experiencing a significant loss of power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and a loud hissing sound. The engine light is on, suggesting a potential issue with the intake manifold flap control, possibly due to a defective switch. A similar case confirmed that replacing the intake manifold control resolved the problem, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Yeah, the engine light is on, forgot to mention that. It's definitely struggling. Feels like the airflow is completely messed up. Where was the problem with yours exactly?

Mine turned out to be the intake manifold flap control, precisely as you guessed. The mechanic said the switch was shot. Honestly, diagnosing it myself was a pain, so I just took it to a workshop.

Thanks a lot for confirming. I'll take it to a workshop then. Finally got the bill for 465€. They replaced the intake manifold control. Runs like new now.

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen with my Galaxy. Any engine light? You mentioned jerking and hissing… almost like the engine is struggling to breathe properly. Does it feel like you're driving with the handbrake on?
