Galaxy Poor Starting High Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Ford Galaxy diesel is experiencing poor starting and increased fuel consumption. The issue may be related to the throttle body or engine throttle affecting air intake and fuel efficiency. A defective control valve or accelerator pedal module could be the cause. Replacing the accelerator pedal module resolved similar issues for another owner, suggesting it as a likely solution.

Yes, the mileage is currently at 77399 km. The engine does eventually run smoothly once it's started, but the initial start is quite rough, and it takes a bit longer than usual. Does this align with what you experienced? What was the eventual repair cost?

Okay, that sounds very familiar. My Galaxy had similar starting problems and fuel consumption issues. It turned out to be a defective accelerator pedal module that was messing with the throttle valve. Replacing it solved the problem. Given your symptoms, it's highly probable you're facing the same issue. I'd suggest taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis, but be prepared for a bill – mine was around 205€.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's incredibly helpful to know that someone else has faced a similar issue with their Galaxy. I'll definitely take it to a workshop and mention the possibility of a defective accelerator pedal module. Knowing the potential repair cost helps me prepare for the expense. As it turns out, the accelerator pedal module was indeed defective. Replacing it completely resolved the starting issues and the high fuel consumption. Thanks again!

I had a similar issue with my Ford Galaxy. It could be the throttle valve causing those symptoms. Have you checked the mileage recently? Also, does the engine run smoothly when it eventually starts?
