Galaxy Stalling Idle Power Loss

Alright, car gurus, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2006 Ford Galaxy with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The check engine light is on, it stalls at idle like it's got hiccups, and the power is way down. It's got 248021 km on the clock. I'm suspecting the fuel volume regulator is playing up. I've checked for obvious vacuum leaks, but nothing. Any ideas before I set it on fire?

Whoa, sounds rough! I had similar issues with my Ford Galaxy (don't remember the exact year), and it turned out to be related to the high pressure fuel pump. Check engine light, rough idle, loss of power – the whole shebang! Felt like driving a donkey uphill. Could be that your fuel volume regulator is being affected by the pump not doing its job properly.

Interesting! So, when you say 'related,' are you saying the pump itself was bad and messing with the regulator, or did replacing the pump fix everything including whatever was wrong with the regulator? I'm trying to avoid throwing parts at it!

Yeah, replacing the pump sorted it all out. Mechanic said the faulty pump was likely causing the regulator to malfunction. You might want to get the fuel pressure tested to confirm, but honestly, I'd bet on the high-pressure pump. It's not cheap, but chasing other gremlins could cost you even more in the long run. A workshop with the right tools and diagnostic equipment might be the best option.

Thanks a bunch! That's super helpful. I took it to my mechanic, and after running some diagnostics, it seems your hunch was spot on. The high-pressure pump was indeed defective, causing the fuel volume regulator to malfunction. It's gonna cost me around 1510€ for the repair, but at least I know what the problem is now. Appreciate the advice!
