Good point about the age...makes me doubt the connections even more. I'll double check the battery with a tester. If the check engine light remains, even after a jump, does that make an ECU issue more likely? I was hoping to avoid a costly engine software check.

Yeah, if the check engine light persists after a jump, and especially with that engine control malfunction warning, it definitely leans towards a more serious ECU issue. Could be a software glitch, or worse, a hardware problem. You could try resetting the ECU, but honestly, at this point, getting it to a workshop for a proper diagnostic might be the best bet. Saves you potentially chasing down a rabbit hole.

Cheers for the advice! Turns out it WAS dodgy battery connections after all, just like I originally suspected. Cleaned them up, and she fired right up. Cost me 155€, a lot less than I was expecting. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Dodgy cable connections? Possibly, but on a 2021? Seems kinda new for that. You sure the battery is actually good? Have you tried jumping it just to rule it out completely? Check engine light on constantly, or just when you try to start? Honestly, sounds like a potential ECU issue to me… ECU failure is never fun. Engine stalling issues could point to that too.
