Galaxy tailgate hall sensor fault

I'm at my wit's end with my 2005 Ford Galaxy, gasoline engine. It's got 167025 km on the clock, and a 'tailgate hall sensor fault' error keeps popping up. The tailgate refuses to open fully, which is a real pain when you're trying to load groceries! I've checked the obvious things, like fuses, but I suspect it might be a faulty sensor wiring or a bad plug connection, as that's what I've read online. Has anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Ford Galaxy owner is experiencing a 'tailgate hall sensor fault' error, preventing the tailgate from opening fully. The issue is suspected to be due to faulty sensor wiring or a bad plug connection. A suggestion is made to check the wiring loom where it flexes between the body and tailgate, as this is a common area for breaks. The owner eventually takes the vehicle to a workshop, confirming the problem was indeed a defective cable or plug connection in the wiring loom, which was repaired.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hall sensor, eh? Sounds familiar. I've got a Galaxy myself. Had a similar thing happen – tailgate playing up, error codes flying around. The sensors are like little detectives, and if one's off, the whole system gets confused. Have you checked the wiring loom where it passes from the body to the tailgate? That's a common spot for breaks.

That's interesting! The wiring loom... You mean where the wires flex every time I open and close the tailgate? Is it tricky to get to? And how would I even check for breaks? I'm not exactly an electrical engineer!

Yep, that's the spot. Think of it like bending a paperclip back and forth – eventually, it snaps. It's accessible, but a bit fiddly. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with wiring, I'd suggest getting a workshop to take a look. Could save you a bigger headache – and a larger bill – down the line. I ended up biting the bullet and getting mine professionally sorted.

Thanks for the advice. I suspected it was going to come to that. I took your advice and brought my Galaxy to the workshop. You were spot on, it was indeed a defective cable / plug connection in the wiring loom. Cost me 95€ to repair. Thanks again for the insight!
