Galaxy Transmission Issues

Hey, I've got a 2022 Ford Galaxy hybrid with almost 100k km. The engine warning light keeps popping up, and sometimes the transmission light too. The gearbox occasionally slips, shifts feel unclean, and there's a slight grinding noise when shifting. Error memory shows a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. I checked the oil level, and it seems fine. Anyone else experienced this?

The symptoms you are describing, specifically the illumination of warning lights in conjunction with shifting anomalies and stored error codes related to the transmission oil temperature sensor, strongly suggest an issue within the transmission system. While the oil level appearing correct might lead one to dismiss that as a cause, it is important to ascertain whether the level was checked according to the vehicle manufacturer's specifications. Was the fluid checked at operating temperature, and was the procedure for your specific transmission adhered to?

Thanks for the quick reply! I checked the level when the engine was cold, following a generic online guide. Could the temperature really make that much of a difference? And if so, why would it throw a sensor error instead of just shifting poorly?

Indeed, the temperature of the transmission fluid significantly impacts its volume. Checking when cold can give a false reading. Furthermore, the system is designed to detect anomalies. A low fluid level can cause the oil temperature to rise beyond acceptable parameters, triggering the sensor fault and the subsequent warning lights and emergency mode. While confirming the fluid level correctly may resolve the issue, the sensor itself could also be faulty. I recommend a diagnostic check by a qualified technician to verify sensor functionality and to ensure the transmission fluid is at the correct level and in good condition.

Appreciate the detailed explanation! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the gearbox oil level was indeed too low (even though it looked fine cold). They topped it up and replaced the faulty sensor – total cost 365€. Shifts like new now. Thanks again for your help!
