Galloper Oil Pressure Warning
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Hyundai Galloper with a diesel engine exhibited an oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises, despite having an adequate oil level. Possible causes included incorrect oil viscosity, a clogged oil filter, or a faulty oil pressure sensor. However, the symptoms suggested a more serious issue with the oil pump. After professional diagnosis, it was confirmed that the oil pump was defective, and replacing it resolved the problem.

No visible leaks, and the oil and filter were changed about 5000 km ago. If it's not the sensor or the oil, could it be something more serious with the oil pump itself?

Yeah, unfortunately, those symptoms and mileage point to a potential defect in the oil pump. If the oil pump isn't working correctly, the engine won't get enough lubrication, which would explain both the low pressure and the noises. I'd advise taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis before you cause more damage.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop, and you were right – it was the oil pump. Repair cost me 755€, but at least the engine is running smoothly again.

Low oil pressure and loud noises aren't good signs. Did you check for any oil leakage around the engine or the oil filter? It could also be a faulty oil pressure sensor, but the noises worry me more. When was the last time you changed the engine oil and the oil filter?
