Gearbox problem on Range Rover Evoque Diesel

Hello everyone, I own a 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque with a diesel engine and 120,000 km on the odometer. For the past week, I've been having a problem with the automatic transmission. It no longer shifts gears normally and remains stuck in P. I've tried to change gears, but it's impossible because everything is blocked. At the garage, they checked the selector and tried an external battery, but nothing changed. Has anyone ever encountered this problem? Thanks in advance for your help. Sincerely, Daniela.

Check if the brake lights are working. A faulty brake light switch can prevent the gear selector from moving out of Park. If the brake lights don't illuminate when you press the pedal, the switch might need replacement. Let me know if this resolves the issue or if you need further assistance.

Good evening, the car is at the garage now. But it's true that the brake light isn't working, I think, because there was also a handbrake message that was also faulty, but the gear selector is stuck in Park mode and I couldn't move the car without roadside assistance. But on Monday I will tell the garage to look at the brake light. If that's the problem, do you know how much that might cost? Thank you for your help.

The cost of replacing a brake light switch can vary, but it's generally a relatively inexpensive repair, often ranging from $50 to $150 including parts and labor. It's great that you'll have the garage check it on Monday. Please keep us updated on the progress, and feel free to ask if you have any more questions.
