Genesis Boost Pressure Malfunction

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2012 Hyundai Genesis with a gasoline engine. It has 80416 km. I think I have a boost pressure problem. The check engine light is on, engine power is way down, almost no engine response, and it stalls at idle. Fuel consumption is also worse, and there's a whistling noise from the engine bay that gets louder when I accelerate. I checked the intercooler piping for leaks, but I didn't see anything. Could this be a wastegate valve issue?

Summary of the thread

The 2012 Hyundai Genesis is experiencing a boost pressure malfunction, indicated by a check engine light, reduced engine power, stalling at idle, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise. Possible causes include a faulty wastegate valve or a defective pressure sensor. Suggested solutions involve checking the pressure sensor readings with an OBD2 scanner and using a boost gauge to monitor pressure. If the readings are erratic, a workshop can perform a smoke test to identify leaks. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be a bad wastegate valve, which was repaired.

Those symptoms do sound like a boost problem. I had something similar with my old Saab 9-3; it was a faulty diverter valve causing a boost leak. Have you checked the pressure sensor readings? A bad sensor can also cause those symptoms, even if the actual boost is fine.

Thanks! I didn't think about the pressure sensor. How did you diagnose the diverter valve in your Saab? What pressure sensor readings should I look for? I have an OBD2 scanner.

I used a boost gauge to monitor the pressure, and it was all over the place. The Saab's diverter valve had a tear. Given your symptoms and mileage, a wastegate issue is likely, but check the sensor data first. If the pressure readings are erratic, take it to a workshop; a smoke test will find any leaks quickly.

Thanks for the advice! I'll get a boost gauge and check the pressure sensor. If the data isn't clear, I'll take it to a workshop. I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed the wastegate valve was bad. The repair was 860€ including parts and labor. Thanks again!
