Genesis Electronic Parking Brake Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Hyundai Genesis is experiencing an electronic parking brake failure, indicated by a warning light and stored error. The issue might be related to the electric motor in the brake caliper. A suggestion was made to check the brake switch, as a faulty switch could also cause similar problems. However, due to the complexity of diagnosing electronic brake issues, it is recommended to have a professional workshop handle the diagnosis and repair.

Thanks for the suggestion! Where exactly is the brake switch located, and is it something I could test myself with a multimeter, or should I better go directly to a workshop?

On my Audi, it was near the brake pedal. But I'm not sure about your Genesis. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with electrical testing, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. Diagnosing electronic brake issues can be tricky, and you don't want to make things worse. I spent hours on mine before I realized the ECU was the real problem. Expect around 500€ repair costs with motor issues.

Thanks for the advice! I'll take it to a workshop and let them diagnose it. The estimated repair costs of 505€ they told me matches your experience with similar motor issues, so I guess they are on the right way. Hopefully, it's something simple, but better safe than sorry when it comes to brakes.

Hey there, sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my old Audi A4. The electronic parking brake just died one day, and the dashboard lit up. Did you try checking the brake switch? Sometimes, a faulty switch can cause these issues, even if the motor is okay. In my case it was not the motor, but the entire electronic brake control module. It seems to be not available as spare part.
