Thanks so much for the advice. I'll book it in for a checkup. It turns out it was exactly as you described - transfer case oil wear and some defective gears. The repair cost me about 330€. I appreciate you sharing your experience!

I have a Genesis too. I had similar symptoms a while back. Gear grinding and unclean shifts definitely sound like they could be related to the transfer case. Mechanical wear is always a concern. Has the transfer fluid ever been changed?
