Genesis heavy steering vibration

I'm having some issues with my 2010 Hyundai Genesis (gasoline engine, 138140 km). The steering has become increasingly heavy, almost like the power steering is failing. On top of that, the steering wheel vibrates quite a bit, especially at lower speeds. I suspect it might be the steering angle sensor. Could a faulty coding of the steering angle sensor cause these symptoms?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Hyundai Genesis owner experienced heavy steering and vibrations, suspecting a faulty steering angle sensor as the cause. The issue was confirmed by a diagnostic scan showing a related error code. The problem was resolved by recoding the steering angle sensor at a workshop, restoring normal steering function.

That's quite a pickle! I once had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 Series. The symptoms sound eerily familiar. Increased steering effort and vibrations can definitely point to problems within the electronic stability control system, which heavily relies on accurate data from the automotive sensors. An angle sensor, as you mentioned, plays a vital role. Have you had any warning lights pop up on your dashboard? And have you tried scanning the car for any error codes?

Thanks for the input. No warning lights on the dash, which is strange. I did scan it, and it threw a code related to the steering angle sensor. That's why I'm leaning towards that being the culprit. What was the resolution in your case with the BMW? Was it indeed the angle sensor?

Ah, a code related to the sensor definitely strengthens that theory! In my case, yes, it turned out to be the steering angle sensor. Replacing it resolved all the issues I was experiencing. However, since you suspect it's the coding specifically, that might require specialized tools and expertise. I'd strongly recommend taking it to a trusted mechanic who has experience with Hyundai's electronic systems. They'll be able to properly diagnose and recode the sensor, if necessary.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right, it was the steering angle sensor coding. They recoded it, and the steering is back to normal. Total cost was 195€ Thanks again!
