Getz brake light issue

Alright, I'm stumped! My 2009 Hyundai Getz diesel is throwing a fit. The brake lights are failing intermittently, and the car's throwing an error in the infotainment system about it. I scanned it, and it's showing a bad brake light switch. I've checked the bulbs, the fuses, and even jiggled the brake pedal. Mileage is at 91104 km. Any ideas? I suspect I messed something up when I was last fiddling with the fuse box.

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Hyundai Getz diesel is experiencing intermittent brake light failures, with an error indicating a bad brake light switch. The issue is suspected to be related to a disturbance in the fuse box, potentially causing a loose connection. The suggested solution is to inspect the brake light switch and its connections, which ultimately revealed a dislodged connector. Reconnecting it resolved the problem without any cost.

Sounds frustrating. To confirm, the error code specifically points to the brake light switch? Have you tried visually inspecting the switch itself for any obvious damage or loose connections? Also, does the error occur immediately upon starting the car, or only when you press the brake pedal?

Good questions! Yes, the code is definitely for the brake light switch. I had a look at the switch; it seems okay, but it's buried up there, so hard to get a proper look. And the error? It's intermittent. Sometimes it pops up right away, sometimes only after a few brake presses. So annoying!

Given it's intermittent and the code is specific, and considering you mentioned potentially disturbing things in the fuse box, it's highly likely to be a user error. The switch itself could be faulty internally, or the wiring to it may have been compromised. I would suggest taking it to a workshop, it may be beyond home repair.

You were spot on! I took it to a local guy, and it turns out I'd accidentally dislodged the connector to the brake light switch just enough to cause an intermittent connection. He plugged it back in properly, cleared the code, and all's good. Cost me absolutely nothing! Thanks for the help!
