Getz engine knocking
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Hyundai Getz with 148,461 km is experiencing engine knocking, reduced power, jerking during acceleration, and smoke emission. The issue is suspected to be related to a faulty knock sensor or carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. After consulting with others who had similar issues, it was determined that carbon deposits were causing pre-ignition. The problem was resolved by having the combustion chamber cleaned at a workshop, restoring the car's performance.

Yeah, it's definitely worse when it's warmed up. Cylinder heads look okay, but I haven't had them off or anything. What exactly did you experience with yours?

Similar symptoms - knocking, loss of power, the works. Turned out to be carbon deposits causing pre-ignition. Best bet is probably a workshop to scope the cylinders. They can check the ignition timing too.

Right, carbon deposits. That makes sense. Took it to a workshop. They confirmed deposits in the combustion chamber. Cost me 425€ to get it cleaned out, but she's running smooth now. Appreciate the help!

Hey, I also have a Getz. Sounds familiar. Does it happen mostly when the engine's warm? Could be deposits messing with the combustion. Have you checked the cylinder heads for any signs of issues?
