GLA Diesel Check Engine Light and Exhaust Heat Sensor
Summary of the thread
The initial problem was a check engine light and power loss in a 2021 GLA Diesel, suspected to be caused by an exhaust heat sensor issue. A faulty exhaust temperature sensor, potentially due to a small exhaust leak, was identified as the cause. The solution involved replacing the sensor and repairing the leak, which resolved the issue, turning off the check engine light and restoring normal vehicle performance and emission control.

Yeah, the fuel consumption seems higher than usual. Where exactly is the exhaust temperature sensor located? And could a leak in the car exhaust system really cause it? Thanks!

A leak in the exhaust system before the heat sensor can definitely throw things off, changing the readings and triggering the fault. As for the exact location, I am not sure. The exhaust sensor position varies. But it's somewhere along the car exhaust, usually near the catalytic converter or diesel particulate filter. Best get it checked professionally to confirm.

Thanks a lot for the help! I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty exhaust temperature sensor, likely caused by a small exhaust leak. The heat sensor replacement and leak repair cost around 265€. The check engine light is now off, and the car is running smoothly again. Emission control is back to normal.

I had something similar on my GLA. Check engine light, sluggish performance. Could be your exhaust temperature sensor acting up. Have you noticed any change in fuel consumption? It's often linked. Does the car feel like it's struggling more than usual?
