GLA hybrid idle stop malfunction
Summary of the thread
The idle stop function in a 2022 Mercedes GLA hybrid was malfunctioning, with the engine shutting off but triggering a warning light and storing an error. A possible cause identified was a heavily discharged or defective auxiliary battery, which could affect the start-stop system's performance. After visiting a workshop, it was confirmed that the auxiliary battery was defective, and replacing it resolved the issue.

The Eco mode is engaged. I have not tried charging the battery directly. Would a standard battery charger be suitable for a hybrid vehicle's auxiliary battery, or does it require a specialized charger?

I'm not entirely sure about the specifics of hybrid batteries. Given the error message and the symptoms you described, it does sound like it could be the battery. I think a workshop visit might be best to diagnose it properly. It is a hybrid vehicle, after all.

Thank you for your input. I took the GLA to a workshop, and the diagnostic confirmed the auxiliary battery was defective. Replacing it for 290€ resolved the start-stop issue. I appreciate your help.

Hmm, that’s strange. Is Eco mode actually engaged when this happens? If the battery is weak, the starter motor might struggle to restart the engine quickly enough, which could trigger the error. Have you tried charging the battery?
