GLC Hybrid Generator Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Mercedes GLC hybrid was experiencing reduced engine power, a battery warning light, starting difficulties, and flickering lights, with a diagnostic reader indicating a generator fault. The potential causes discussed included a worn serpentine belt, engine misfire, or a defective generator. After further testing confirmed the generator was faulty, it was replaced, resolving the issues.

Thanks. If there's an engine misfire, would that cause the generator to fail early, or would it just mess with the voltage readings?

Misfires can put a strain on the charging system because they increase the electrical demand. Check the generator's output before replacing it to make sure the error isn't just a false alarm from the misfire. But with that error code, it probably is a bad generator.

Thanks for the advice. I verified the generator was faulty after more tests. I replaced it, and now everything is working as it should. I appreciate the tips about the serpentine belt and the possibility of an engine misfire.

The symptoms you're describing do point to a defective generator. Before you replace it, carefully check the serpentine belt and its tensioner. Also, see if there are any signs of an engine misfire, as that can seem like charging problems.
