GLE engine knock and jerking when accelerating

My 2015 Mercedes GLE with a gasoline engine is acting up terribly It has almost 200000 km on the clock I am experiencing significant engine knock, a noticeable reduction in engine power, and a disturbing jerking sensation whenever I try to accelerate To make matters worse, there's also smoke billowing out when I accelerate, and the check engine light is on I had the error memory read, and it seems like there are some misfire issues logged Could this be related to the fuel octane I am using, or could it be something more sinister like issues with the cylinder heads I'm really worried about detonation ruining my engine Could it be a faulty knock sensor

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Mercedes GLE with nearly 200,000 km is experiencing engine knock, reduced power, jerking during acceleration, smoke, and a check engine light, with misfire issues logged. The problem may be linked to using regular fuel with an octane rating of 95, potentially causing pre-ignition and knocking due to carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. A suggested solution is to have the cylinder heads cleaned to remove carbon deposits, which resolved the issue for another owner with similar symptoms. After cleaning the combustion chamber, the car runs smoothly again.

I had a similar issue with my GLE, though I can't recall all the specifics I had engine knock and jerking when accelerating Did you check for any unusual noises besides the knocking Do you notice it more when the engine is cold or hot If it is deposits, which fuel octane are you currently using

Thanks for your reply The knocking seems to be more pronounced when the engine is warm, and now that you mention it, there is a kind of rattling sound too I have been using regular fuel with an octane rating of 95 Could that be the culprit, or are we talking about something more serious

Using a lower fuel octane could possibly contribute, but with those symptoms, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a reputable workshop My issue turned out to be significant carbon deposits in the combustion chamber, causing pre-ignition and knocking Ignoring it could cause serious engine damage down the road I ended up having to get the cylinder heads cleaned

I appreciate your advice, it seems that you have accurately diagnosed my issue I took it to a mechanic, and as you suspected, heavy carbon deposits were indeed the cause The mechanic cleaned the combustion chamber, and now the car runs smoothly again The whole repair including the cleaning of the intake valves and new gaskets cost me 425€ Thank you, once again
