GLE engine oil pressure warning and mechanical noises

My 2019 Mercedes GLE gasoline engine has an issue The oil pressure warning lamp is on and there are loud mechanical noises The car has 160335 km Could this be low oil pressure, a faulty sensor, or an oil pump defect The engine oil level is normal

Whoa, low oil pressure on a GLE That's not good at all I had a similar issue, and trust me, you don't want to ignore this The loud mechanical noises are a dead giveaway that something's seriously wrong Did you happen to check the oil viscosity Sometimes using the wrong engine oil can cause havoc with the oil pressure Also, does your oil pressure gauge fluctuate wildly or stay consistently low It could be a faulty oil pressure sensor, sure, but with those noises, I'd bet it's something more substantial Has the car been regularly serviced What engine oil are you using

I am using the engine oil recommended in the owner's manual, and it was recently changed during a scheduled service The oil pressure gauge, unfortunately, does not provide specific numerical readings, only a warning light Could a defect in the oil pump really cause such significant issues so suddenly Is it something I can check myself

Alright, using the recommended oil and recent service rules out some basic stuff An oil pump defect causing sudden issues Absolutely It's a mechanical component, and they can fail without much warning As for checking it yourself, unless you're a seasoned mechanic with the right tools and diagnostic equipment, I wouldn't advise it Messing with the oil pump without proper knowledge can lead to even more expensive damage Given the low oil pressure and the noises you're hearing, I'd strongly recommend getting it to a workshop ASAP Driving it in this condition could seriously wreck your engine It could be something as simple as a faulty oil pressure sensor, but you don't want to gamble on that In my case, it turned out to be a faulty oil pump

I appreciate the advice I took the vehicle to a workshop, and it was indeed diagnosed as a defect in the oil pump, as you suggested The eventual repair cost amounted to 755€ Thank you for your help and insights
