GLE Transfer Case Limp Mode Issue

My 2017 Mercedes GLE with a gasoline engine, showing 118735 km, seems to be in transfer case limp mode. I'm experiencing slippage and unclean gear shifts. Could ABS anomalies trigger this in the transfer case and gearbox? I'm concerned about the torque converter, traction control, and gear selector. Are there specific fault codes I should look for?

I had similar symptoms with my GLE. The traction control seemed to be fighting me, and the shifts were harsh. Check the fault codes related to the wheel speed sensors. A faulty sensor can throw off the whole system and cause the transfer case to act up. It might not be a direct transfer case issue.

Could you elaborate on which specific wheel speed sensor fault codes were present in your case? Were there any other associated symptoms, such as ABS warning lights, accompanying the gearbox malfunction?

I do not recall the exact fault codes, but yes, the ABS warning light was illuminated on the dashboard. The issue was indeed a faulty wheel speed sensor. I advise that you have the vehicle inspected by a qualified technician at a workshop.

A faulty wheel speed sensor was indeed the culprit. Replacing it resolved the ABS issue, and subsequently, the transfer case returned to normal operation. The total repair cost was 0€ due to a favorable warranty claim.
