GLK Air Conditioning Problems

My 2011 Mercedes GLK diesel's air conditioning is completely dead, blowing hot air. The warning light is on, and the error codes point to the refrigerant compressor. Could it be a refrigerant leak? Is there anything obvious to check before I take it in for expensive AC repair? Is this a common problem?

I had a similar issue with my GLK. Same symptoms: no cooling, warning light. It could be a number of things, but before you start tearing things apart, did you check the AC compressor relay and the fuse? Those are easy to get to and replace if they are bad. Also, how many kilometers are on your GLK?

Thanks! That's a good starting point. I'll definitely check the relay and fuse. Any idea where they are located specifically? I'm not super familiar with the GLK's layout. Mine has about 126773 km. What was the issue with your cooling system when you had the same problem?

Okay, 126773 km, that's good to know. My issue ended up being a defective air conditioning control unit. The fuse box diagram should be in your owner's manual. If not, a quick search online should point you to the right location. Honestly, with those symptoms and the mileage, and given the error code about the compressor, it's probably not just a fuse. You might want to bite the bullet and take it to a reputable shop that specializes in automotive cooling systems. They can properly diagnose any refrigerant leak and check the entire vehicle HVAC system. I ended up paying around 980€ for mine to be fixed.

Thanks a lot for the information! I checked the fuse and relay, and they seemed fine. So, I took it to the shop, and you were right: the AC control unit was bad. Cost me about the same as yours to repair. At least now I have a working AC again. Thanks again for your help!
