GLK diesel power loss and smoke emission

My 2010 Mercedes GLK diesel with high mileage is showing reduced engine power and smoke during acceleration Could this be a defective diesel particulate filter and what troubleshooting can I do before going to a mechanic

I had similar symptoms with my GLK The reduced power and smoke are classic signs It could be the diesel filter itself, but don't rule out a sensor fault Sometimes a faulty sensor can trigger the same symptoms Have you noticed any changes in your fuel efficiency lately Also, has the car attempted a regeneration recently You might have noticed the engine running differently or a slight burning smell Before replacing the filter, I'd suggest a thorough vehicle inspection, focusing on the sensors related to the diesel particulate filter

Thanks for the insights Regarding the regeneration process, is there a specific indicator that should be apparent I haven't noticed anything Could you elaborate on the sensor faults you encountered and the diagnostic methods used

There isn't always a clear notification for regeneration, unfortunately It usually just happens in the background while driving If it's constantly interrupted, that could clog the filter Regarding the sensors, it's tricky to pinpoint without proper diagnostics I ended up taking mine to a workshop; they have the equipment to read the fault codes and see exactly which sensor is acting up It might be worth the cost of a diagnostic check before you start replacing parts If it is the filter, expect to pay around 1550€ for the repair

I appreciate the advice I'll schedule a diagnostic assessment at a workshop to find out what's wrong Your shared experience has been invaluable Thank you
