Summary of the thread
A 2011 Mercedes GLK owner reported a problem with the mirror heating not working on either side, with a fault code indicating a heater element issue. I did check the fuses, all seem fine The error code is quite generic, something like Mirror heater circuit malfunction Any idea how to test the heater element or wiring before I just replace the whole car mirror

A generic code like that makes it difficult to isolate the problem If the fuses are good, and the code persists, the issue is most likely the heater element or the wiring leading to it Without specialized tools, testing the heater element directly can be tricky Given the labor involved in diagnosing and potentially repairing the wiring, the quote you received for mirror replacement might be reasonable It would be best to take it to a workshop

Thanks for the input I took it to a workshop, and you were right, it was indeed the heater element in both rearview mirrors They replaced both car mirrors, and everything is working now The vehicle safety is improved

Mirror heating failures aren't uncommon, especially on older vehicles The car mirror heater element itself could be faulty, or as you suspect, it might be wiring Before committing to mirror replacement, have you checked the relevant fuses Also, is the error code specific Knowing the exact code will help pinpoint the problem Check if the rearview mirror is properly connected Also verify that the car mirror moves correctly
