Last service was at 65955 KM and they found several issues with the automotive electronics that might be relevant here. The transmission control module needed recalibration after multiple error codes appeared on my electronic display. The instrument panel issues were actually caused by a faulty wiring harness connection between the gear shift mechanism and the control unit. After replacing the harness and recalibrating the system, the shift knob began responding normally again and all warning lights cleared up. The grinding noise also disappeared completely after the repair. The fix has been solid for about 6 months now with no reoccurrence of any transmission or instrument panel problems. If your symptoms match mine, I would recommend having the wiring harness checked first before replacing more expensive components.

In my case with the 2015 Canyon, the wiring harness was actually the second thing we checked after my initial repair didnt fully resolve the issues. While the transmission control unit replacement fixed the gear shift response, the gear indicator display was still acting up intermittently. The workshop found corroded wiring in the harness connecting the gear selector to the control module, causing inconsistent signals to the electronic display. The wiring damage wasnt obvious during the first inspection since it was hidden under protective covering. After replacing both the harness and the control unit, all systems worked perfectly: Gear shift indicator showed correct positions, Digital display stopped showing error codes, Transmission shifted smoothly through all gears, No more grinding sounds The total repair cost ended up being 1400 Euro with both fixes. While more expensive than initially expected, having both components replaced ensured all the electronic and mechanical issues were fully resolved. No problems since then, and its been over a year now. Your experience with the harness replacement matches what many others have reported. Its often worth checking the wiring first since its a less expensive fix than replacing the entire control module.

Thanks for sharing your wiring harness experience. The car dashboard in my Sonoma started working normally again after the recent fixes. My total repair costs came to 800 Euro, which seems reasonable compared to your Canyon repairs. The automotive electronics specialist confirmed the same diagnosis, a damaged connection between the gear shift mechanism and transmission control module was causing most problems. While checking the wiring, they also found some wear on the shift knob assembly that needed attention. Just had it out on a long drive yesterday and the digital display is working perfectly. The gear shift feels responsive again with no grinding or slipping. Really glad I got the wiring harness checked first before replacing the whole control unit. For anyone else seeing similar symptoms, definitely have them inspect the wiring connections before assuming you need major transmission work. The electronic display issues turned out to be more about damaged wiring than actual transmission problems in my case.

I have some experience with transmission issues and had a very similar problem with my 2015 GMC Canyon. The symptoms were nearly identical, especially the unresponsive gear shift and instrument panel display malfunction. After multiple sensor problems and error codes showing on the digital display, I took it to a workshop. The diagnosis revealed a defective transmission control unit, which was causing both the mechanical shifting issues and the electronic display problems on the car dashboard. The repair involved: Complete diagnostics of the transmission system, Replacement of the control unit, Reprogramming of the new unit, Testing all gear shift functions, Recalibrating the instrument panel displays Total cost was around 1000 Euro, including parts and labor. The repair resolved all issues, both the mechanical shifting problems and the electronic display functionality. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Current mileage on your Sonoma, When did these symptoms first appear, Any recent transmission maintenance history, Specific error codes showing on your dashboard, Whether the issues happen more in certain driving conditions This information would help determine if your situation is similar to what I experienced.
