Golf petrol engine 2013: Black smoke, engine problems and fuel injection pressure
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Golf petrol engine is experiencing issues such as black smoke, engine stalling, loss of power, poor fuel efficiency, and a strong exhaust smell. These symptoms suggest potential problems with the fuel injection pressure or the engine management system. It is recommended to have the engine management system checked and possibly replace faulty sensors or components affecting fuel injection. Addressing these issues promptly is crucial for safety and restoring the vehicle's performance.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and the experience with your 2016 Golf Diesel. Interesting that you also had something with the engine management... Could actually be something along those lines with my petrol engine. Do you remember what you paid for it back then? And has anything else unforeseen come up since then in relation to the same thing? It's really stupid that workshop visits often bring such surprises... But you're right, safety is definitely the most important thing! Thank you very much in advance!

Hey, no problem, we car enthusiasts have to stick together. In my case, it cost around €45 to change the fuel filter and rectify the resulting fault. So the price was really ok. Fortunately, my mechanic also checked the fuel injection pressure and fixed the problem. Since then, the car has been like new again, no more problems with black smoke or a jerky engine. I agree, garage visits can be really annoying and sometimes they turn into such surprises. But as you rightly say, safety definitely comes first! Keep at it and have your Golf checked thoroughly. All the best!

Hey, cool, that sounds like a tolerable solution. Good to hear everything went well for you and thanks for sharing! I'm going to secure an appointment with my mechanic and address the issue with the engine maganement. I hope it wouldn't be anything serious. As you rightly say, safety first! Thanks again and drive safe!

Fault code p008700 (Fuel rail pressure too low). I have a mk7.5 Golf GTI Performance. Since this code I have replaced High pressure fuel pump to an upgraded one, also replaced fuel rail pressure sensor. I am running a stage 1 pops and bangs map, milltek downpipe and gpf delete, backbox delete, revo air intake. Any thoughts what could be causing this?

Check the fuel filter for any blockages or restrictions, as a clogged filter can lead to low fuel pressure. If the filter is clear, inspect the fuel lines for any leaks or kinks that might be affecting fuel delivery. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!

Hi, I had a slightly damp rail. I retightened everything and the error is gone. The engine is running as it should again. Small cause - big effect. Thanks Carly, you've definitely saved me some €.

Consider checking the fuel pump relay and the electrical connections to ensure they are functioning properly. A faulty relay or loose connection can also cause low fuel pressure issues. Let me know if this resolves the problem or if you need further assistance!

Engine stutters during acceleration, from approximately 130 km/h. Adapter Sarly shows error code P027200. Otherwise, everything is ok.

The error code P0272 indicates a cylinder 4 injector circuit contribution/balance fault. Start by checking the wiring and connections to the injector on cylinder 4 for any signs of damage or corrosion. If everything looks fine, consider testing the injector itself for proper operation. Let me know if you need more help or if you have any questions!

Hi mate, I had a similar problem with my 2016 Golf Diesel. There was a lot of black smoke and the engine was running rough. It just cut out a few times. The problem was serious enough that I could no longer drive safely. The mechanic explained that it was a problem with the engine management system. A sensor in the engine compartment was faulty and had to be replaced. It could be different for you, of course, but a check of the engine management system might be a good place to start. He also mentioned that an out-of-round engine can have a negative impact on fuel efficiency and overall engine performance. Therefore, it was also important to fix the problem as soon as possible. After the repair, my car ran like clockwork again. I know garage visits can be nerve-wracking, but I suggest getting the car checked thoroughly. Remember, safety first. Hope this helps a little!
