Grandeur Diesel Power Loss and Smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Hyundai Grandeur diesel is experiencing a significant drop in engine power and emitting smoke during acceleration, with the engine light on. The issue could be related to a faulty sensor or a problem with the diesel particulate filter (DPF). It is suggested to have the DPF and exhaust system checked at a workshop, as these symptoms align with a DPF issue. The problem was confirmed to be the DPF, and it was resolved at a repair shop.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't really looked into the regeneration process. Where would I start, and how can I check the exhaust system myself? Any idea what backpressure I should be looking for?

Honestly, checking the backpressure properly requires special tools. It really does sound like my DPF issue. I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop. They can properly diagnose it and tell you for sure. It could be a faulty sensor, but based on my experience, it's worth checking the filter itself.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a shop, and you were right – it was the DPF. Repair cost me about 1550€. Appreciate the help!

Hey there! I have a Grandeur too (though a bit newer). Your symptoms sound a lot like what happened when my diesel particulate filter went bad. I had reduced power and noticed smoke as well. Have you checked the exhaust system or if the car is trying to do a regeneration?
