Grandeur preheating lamp and check engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Hyundai Grandeur diesel owner reported issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected causes included a faulty glow control unit or defective cables or plugs. Another owner with similar symptoms suggested checking the glow plugs and using an OBD-II scanner for error codes. The problem was resolved by replacing a defective cable or plug connection to the glow control unit, as confirmed by a repair shop.

Thanks for the tip! Which error code did you get when you scanned it?

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact error code, but it was related to the glow control unit. I didn't want to troubleshoot any further and took it directly to a repair shop. They found a defective cable or plug connection to the unit. Replacing it solved the issue. If the error code confirms a similar problem, you should bring it to a professional.

Okay, thanks for the help! I had a similar diagnosis, and the repair shop confirmed that the cable or plug connection to the glow control unit was defective. The repair cost was 95€. Replacing it solved the problem.

Hello! I also own a Hyundai Grandeur with a diesel engine and had similar symptoms. The preheating lamp constantly illuminated, and the engine light popped up. Initially, I suspected a faulty glow plug, maybe you should check those. I also experienced engine misfires. Did you check the error code using an OBD-II scanner? This will provide some info.
