Grandeur transmission issues
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Hyundai Grandeur diesel with 199,000 km was experiencing engine and transmission warning lights, with symptoms like slipping, unclean shifts, and grinding. The error memory indicated a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The issue was traced to low transmission oil, which likely caused the sensor to malfunction. After refilling the oil and replacing the sensor, the warning lights disappeared, and the vehicle's shifting improved significantly.

I haven't checked the fluid level yet, but even if it's low, would that throw the sensor off, or is the sensor failing because of the low fluid? Is the sensor genuinely kaput?

Low fluid can definitely affect the sensor reading. It's possible the low level is causing the sensor to overheat or not read correctly. Sensors do fail, but with those symptoms, I'd seriously consider getting it checked at a workshop ASAP. Don't want to risk damaging your transmission further!

I checked the transmission oil level, and it was indeed too low. I filled it, and the warning lights disappeared. I had the sensor replaced at the workshop, and they confirmed that low oil was likely the culprit, possibly damaging the sensor. It cost me 365€. It shifts like a dream now!

That sounds rough! A faulty sensor could cause those issues, but the slipping and grinding are worrying. Emergency mode too? Have you checked the transmission fluid level yourself? Is it dark or burnt smelling?
