Grandeur VANOS Solenoid Suspected
Summary of the thread
The 2009 Hyundai Grandeur is experiencing issues with the check engine light on and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be due to faulty inlet VANOS mechanics. Similar symptoms in another vehicle were linked to a malfunctioning camshaft solenoid valve or power supply issues affecting the VANOS system. The suggested solution is to have a mechanic perform a diagnostic scan to confirm the defect and proceed with necessary repairs.

Power loss... hmm, it's subtle, but I think you're right. What did you end up doing about it on your BMW?

I ended up taking it to my trusted mechanic. A scan revealed the error codes related to the VANOS. Considering the symptoms and your expertise, it is likely a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves. Considering the cost and risk for further defects, I suggest you do the same.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. It seems like you hit the nail on the head with the VANOS solenoid. Will tow the car and drop it off tomorrow morning. Repair bill came to around 250€. Thanks again!

I had similar symptoms on my older BMW. I believe it was related to one of the camshaft solenoid valves or power supply not available to it, which caused the VANOS system to malfunction. Has the car been losing power as well?
