Grandis HVAC Problems: Blower & Heater Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Mitsubishi Grandis is experiencing HVAC issues, specifically with the blower and suspected electric auxiliary heater. A similar problem was encountered with a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander, where the issue was diagnosed as a faulty electric auxiliary heater, a common problem in Mitsubishis from that era. The repair, including parts and labor, cost around 350€, and it was suggested to check for corrosion on electrical connections. Immediate inspection and repair are advised to avoid worsening the problem.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Grandis has 121567 KM on the clock and had its last service about 3 months ago. The symptoms you described with your Outlander sound exactly like what I'm experiencing. Did you notice any warning signs before the auxiliary heater completely failed? I'm wondering if I should expect similar repair costs since we're dealing with similar era Mitsubishis. Just hoping to avoid any surprises when I take it to the shop!

Hey again! Yeah, absolutely, happy to share more about my experience! With my Outlander (which had about 140,000 KM when the issue occurred), I did notice some warning signs before it completely went out. Initially, I had inconsistent heating, some days it would work fine, and others it would barely warm up. Also, the blower would sometimes make this weird whining noise, especially on cold mornings. Since your Grandis is from the same era and has similar mileage to what my Outlander had, I'd expect the repair costs to be in the same ballpark. Though, prices might've gone up a bit since last year. My advice would be to get it checked soon, I waited a bit too long and ended up having to drive with barely any heat for a couple of weeks in winter, which wasn't fun! One thing I learned from my experience, make sure they check the electrical connections too. In my case, there was also some minor corrosion on the connectors that they cleaned up during the repair, which helped with the overall performance. Let me know how it goes when you get it checked out! Always interested to hear how these repairs turn out on different Mitsubishi models.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! Really helpful to hear about those warning signs, I've actually noticed that same whining noise on cold mornings too, so it's probably the same issue. I'll definitely get it checked out this week before it gets any worse. The price range you mentioned helps me budget for it, and I'll make sure to ask them about checking those electrical connections too. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's exactly what I needed to know. I'll update the thread once I get it fixed to help others who might run into the same problem with their Mitsubishis. Thanks again!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander last year (I have some experience working on cars, mostly basic maintenance). The symptoms were pretty much identical to what you're describing. Took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed a faulty electric auxiliary heater. The whole repair, including parts and labor, cost me around 350€. The mechanic mentioned this is actually a somewhat common issue with Mitsubishis from that era. What's interesting is that I initially thought it was just the blower motor, but it turned out to be the auxiliary heater. The fix took about 3-4 hours, and it's been working perfectly since then. Could you share more details about your Grandis? Like the engine type and mileage? This might help me give you more specific advice based on my experience. Hope this helps!
